What role do the Women’s Groups play at TT&F?
● TT&F organizes and engages over 800 women in 14 communities around Lusaka to
identify and refer HIV+ orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs) and pregnant women to
the TT&F clinic. These women are also essential in identifying communities which are in
need of an outreach event (free HIV testing and counseling). Several days before these
outreaches the women’s groups gather to mobilise and sensitize the specific community
about the event. The women are responsible for building support for TT&F’s work in
the communities.
● In addition to the work they do directly for TT&F, these women’s groups work together
to generate income by engaging in arts, crafts and farming activities.
● Lastly these women’s groups will play an essential role in our Palliative Care Program
since the women will be trained for home based care so that they can administer it in their
own communities as well as in our ward at Our Lady Hospice.
